How true could this be? I know Ghanaians love football so much, and the recent elimination of the national team from the world cup brought many tears and heart breaks to our football lovers.
In an interview with KweséESPN, Thomas Partey, Atletico Madrid midfielder revealed that he believes Ghana’s world cup qualification campaign failed due to lack of stability in the national team set-up. But how true could this be? Seriously, were the players not supposed to play harder no matter what?
Moving on, one could recall the many changes made by the national team coach, Appiah. Dropping players such as Wakaso Mubarak, Emmanuel Agyeman-Badu , Razak Brimah and the Ayew brothers which brought lots of controversies and insult (well Ghanaians can insult) .But honestly, could the team have made any difference with the sidelined/dropped players?
Well, According to Partey, “It was difficult for the squad to deal with the constant speculation surrounding the Ayew brothers”. Could that be another reason why they performed poorly?
He again revealed how shameful it was to lose Avram Grant because he was a great manager and then acknowledges Appiah of being a great coach.
He added, “Each one comes with their own ideas and as the managers changed, there were changes in the team so we needed some time to settle,”. Further added, “I think that is why qualification did not go well.
“We are disappointed not to have qualified but our focus now is to keep pushing in order to improve.”
Well said Partey but Ghanaians are more disappointed. And to think of our Nigerian brothers qualified and still teasing Ghanaians of dancing one corner whiles they were training hard still hurt.
But all the same better luck next time!
